Josh Weaver (he/him) is an emerging Melbourne based artist, with a Bachelor's degree in Performing Arts from Federation University (2021), and a Diploma in Screen and Media (Film and Television) from Swinburne University (2023). As well as acting for stage and screen, he also enjoys flexing his writing and film-making muscles in his spare time.
In high school, Josh performed in every annual production until his graduation – highlights include playing leading roles in The Crucible (John Hale), Legally Blonde (Professor Callahan), and Pride and Prejudice (Mr. Bennet). In 2016, he was offered the opportunity to work with the National Trust on two separate educational projects, Respect Me, and Heritage at Your Touch where he was first introduced to the world of filmmaking.
During his time at Federation University, Josh enjoyed broadening his skillset to include dance (tap being his favourite), as well as expanding on his performance and production skills. In his second year, Josh played the role of Demetrius in A Midsummer Night’s Dream directed by Dr Ross Hall and the roles of Percy and ensemble in The Sentimental Bloke, Directed by Anthony Crowley. In his graduating year, Josh worked with his peers to create the self-devised show Exquisite Corpse, in which he wrote songs and scripts, played the role of a radio host, and experimented behind the scenes with sound design, and in his final semester he helped bring to life the roles of Gilbert Goldwire and the Gardener in Richard Brome's The Sparagus Garden, directed by Dr Kim Durban, in the first performance of the play since the 1660s.
Since graduating, Josh joined with Who Management and has continued his work as an actor and artist in Melbourne. Recent projects include short films such as Will Quro's The Perfect Date, screened as part of the Lumix 72 Hour Filmmaking challenge, and Unpack Parliament, where he worked with a team of young people to produce and voice several podcast episodes with the help of the Victorian Parliament and SYN Media.
Recently, Josh graduated with a Diploma in Screen and Media from Swinburne, complimenting his acting ability with production skills and experience. He premiered his first short film, Vecchia, in which he worked as Writer, Director, Producer, and played the male lead, Marco, for the project.
Vecchia is currently a finalist in the Peninsula Film Festival, having already won Best Film and People's Choice for Best Music at the Swinburne end of year showcase.
